Taking Baby Steps on Creating a Blog

I've always been meaning to start a blog, but didn't know when and how to get it rollin'. You see, when the idea of blog started years back, the concept, in my opinion, was to mimic that of a diary. And I shy away. Not because I am a timid person, but because I did not see myself sharing my thoughts and feelings to the strangest of man. Last night (but more of early morning), during my usual toss and turns, I finally pushed myself forward to have one, and agreed to make myself a public property (although not in the truest sense) from here on, until further notice. This would mean typing (and not writing, because I've retired myself from physically writing with a pen or pencil those essays, presentations, and reports since I graduated from the University.) during my supposedly rest nights. I don't mind.

It quite surprised me how easy it was creating a blog account:

  • Think of a catchy, creative account name. My goal was for the name to somewhat reflect me and my interests in life. Thus, the name PinayAdventure.
  • Go to Google and sign-up for the account name. Pray hard someone hasn't thought and signed-up your brilliant idea before you did. I had two choices, and one was already taken.
  • Activate Blogger by scrolling to the header portion of Google, hovering on More, then selecting Blogger. Tada!
  • Then I layout and design templates by choosing the Picture Window Template, and customizing the background image. Bloggers has tons of images to choose from that I'm surprised, it doesn't look bad at all. Everything is so easy to configure, one doesn't even really need programming skills for this. The design and color templates will make you look like a design pro. For myself, I wanted to have a white background on my posts, since I personally do not find it easy reading on white over black, if you know what I mean.
  • Customize your layout by choosing the essential "Gadgets" you think are important for your site. Mine are:
    • Labels
    • Search This Blog
    • Blog Archive
    • Subscribe to Updates
    • Email
    • Share It
    • Links
  • Put up a "Like my Facebook FanPage" on the side bar via adding an HTML "Gadget". This displays even the faces of the people who likes your Facebook FanPage. If people click this, it adds count to the likes you get on your Facebook FanPage. This way. the visitors no longer needs to go to a separate window to do you a favor an like your page. Check out the link below where you'll find detailed steps on doing this. Just a tip though, when it says that you have to look for the "EDIT HTML" button, then you'll find it in the TEMPLATES portion. http://www.bloggerplugins.org/2011/01/facebook-like-fan-box-for-blogger.html
  • Needless to say, I also signed up for a Facebook Page dedicated for this blog, but linked to my personal Facebook Account.
  • If you update your blog as often as you could and write on interesting topics to cause enough web traffic, then you might consider adding AdSense  to your blog . This gives you the chance to earn at the same time with your blog. =)
  • I signed up for Adsense for some ads on my new blog. I don't expect on receiving a lot from this, but I just want to give it a try. If you're 24/7 serious with your blog, then maybe you'd earn a huge sum in AdSense. I don't know yet. Anyone mind sharing their experience with AdSense?

I've still got a lot to learn about this though. A lot more things. SOS?

By the way, this blog is a product of reading from another person's blog, Ready to be Rich www.fitzvillafuerte.com His blog is quite interesting and inspiring, to be honest.

So I hope my "typing" will interest all visitors, too, to keep you visiting and subscribing. I like fashion, travel, self-help books, and pampering. You...? What do you like...?
